Course Description

BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) - UG Program:

BAMS is an undergraduate program that focuses on the traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda, which originated in India. The program typically spans 5.5 years, including 4.5 years of academic study and a 1-year compulsory internship. BAMS students are trained in various subjects such as Ayurvedic philosophy, anatomy, physiology, herbal medicine, toxicology, surgery, and Panchakarma (detoxification therapy). The curriculum emphasizes a holistic approach to healing, combining ancient knowledge with modern scientific techniques. After completing the BAMS program, graduates are qualified to practice as Ayurvedic doctors, offering treatments that focus on natural healing, lifestyle changes, and preventive healthcare.

BAMS PG (Postgraduate) Programs:

Postgraduate studies in Ayurveda, such as MD (Ayurveda) or MS (Ayurveda), allow BAMS graduates to specialize in various branches of Ayurvedic medicine. These programs typically take 3 years to complete. Some of the key specializations include:

Kayachikitsa – Internal medicine in Ayurveda, focusing on the treatment of diseases through Ayurvedic methods.
Shalya Tantra – Ayurvedic surgery, focusing on surgical interventions using Ayurvedic techniques.
Panchakarma – Specialization in detoxification therapies.
Rasa Shastra – The science of preparing and using metals and minerals in Ayurvedic medicine.
Dravyaguna – The study of medicinal herbs and their properties.
Postgraduate programs in Ayurveda help practitioners gain in-depth knowledge and expertise in their chosen specialization. MD/MS (Ayurveda) graduates can work in hospitals, research institutes, or as teachers and consultants. They can also pursue further research in Ayurveda or contribute to the development of new Ayurvedic medicines and treatments.
